Fyve Eyes LLC ASIRT Training
The Active Shooter and Intruder Response Training (ASIRT) plan for Missouri schools, as mandated by the state's Revised Statutes (RSMO170.315), requires a comprehensive approach for all school employees. The plan must include a simulated drill led by law enforcement and cover crucial response techniques to address threatening situations.
1. Annual Training Requirements
- Curriculum: Annual ASIRT training is mandatory for all Missouri school employees. The curriculum must include information and techniques for addressing a potentially dangerous or armed intruder or active shooter.
- Training duration: For school districts conducting ASIRT training for the first time, the session can last up to eight hours. The length of the annual continuing training can be up to four hours.
- Required content: The training must cover key response protocols, including:
- What to do when an active shooter is present on school property.
- How to properly respond to students who report threatening situations.
- Techniques for addressing situations with a potentially dangerous or armed intruder.
- The implementation of lockdown procedures.
- The 3 Out NON-LINEAR Intruder Response Model, which includes fighting back if a lockdown fails.
- How to interact with law enforcement when they arrive.
2. Simulated Drills
Mandatory drill:
All school employees must participate in an annual simulated active shooter and intruder response drill.
Leadership:
A certified current or retired law enforcement professional must conduct and lead the drill.
Safety briefing:
Every drill must begin with an explanation of its purpose and a comprehensive safety briefing.
Participant understanding:
The training and drill must ensure that every participant knows and understands how to respond in a real-life emergency.
Interactive scenarios:
The drill can include scenarios that allow employees to respond in ways they have been trained, as well as opportunities to try new response methods based on the results of the drill.
3. Instructors & Coordination
ASIRT program instructors must be certified by Missouri's POST Commission. School districts are also encouraged to work with law enforcement and other agencies when developing their training programs.
4. Ongoing Improvements
Drills and training should be used to evaluate emergency procedures, with feedback from participants used to refine the ASIRT plan. Part of a school's safety also includes encouraging students to report potential threats to an adult.
